Newsletter from Room 508 January 24, 2011
Dear Families,
Literacy homework for this week is to collect at least 5 jokes for our class joke book. Students can ask family members and friends for favorite jokes. If you need help, use the internet or joke books, or make up your own! I will put all of the jokes together in a book and everyone will get a copy.
We are making sock puppets this week, and will use the puppets to act out a play titled, "Smile, Mike."
ESL (English as Second Language) First Graders will be taking the ACCESS assessment Wednesday and Thursday, January 26 and 27. This is a very important assessment, so please make sure your child is well-rested and at school on time.
I hope students are enjoying the Everyday Math Online Games. If your child misplaces her login card, let me know so I can give you a copy.
If you would like to check out a Treasures CD for your child to use at home, please send a note with your child, or come by the classroom, and I will sign one out to you. Care for the CD's the same as you do library books. You may check out a CD for one month at a time. You do not need the internet to use the Treasures CD.

Everyday Math Homework Note:
Included with homework this week is the Everyday Math Unit 6 Family Letter, which also includes homework help and answers. Please read it, and keep it for reference as your child works through Unit 6.
Scholastic Book Order Forms
I am sending home Scholastic book order forms today. This is a good way to add books your child can read to your family library. Also every form has at least one book offered for $1.00. Make out checks or money orders to Scholastic Book Clubs. Order deadline is next Monday, January 31st.
