October 8, 2012 News from Room 508 Dear Families, THANK YOU to families that turned in cookie dough orders! That fund raiser is how we get money to pay for fieldtrip buses! THANK YOU to parents that went with us on our fieldtrip to the Rio Grande Community Farm. Fieldtrips are not possible without your help. Midterm Progress Reports went home last week. If you have not done so already, please read, sign and return it to school as soon as possible! Your child should be reading at a DRA level 4 or higher to be on track at this point in First Grade. If your child is not at level 4 or higher, it is absolutely necessary for you to be working with him/her at home everyday! Please call me if you have questions or comments, or stop by our room after 2:15. Remember, good attendance is so important for your child’s success! Be here. Be on time. If your child misses 2 or more unexcused days, I am required to make an attendance referral to administration. A spelling word idea for home: Say sentences using the words. Write sentences using the words. Homework: No daily homework went home last week. This week, homework will go home Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and will be due the following days. Please help your child fill out a reading log and complete one book report each week. Reading Log and Book Report are due on Mondays. Read at least 20 minutes a day with your child. Tumblebooks Login: hcordero Password: books Our next fieldtrip is Tuesday, October 30th, to the zoo. Cost of that trip will be $1.50 per student. Permission slips will go home next week. Important Note! ALL parents and/or family members going on our next fieldtrip must have a background checks! You will not be allowed to accompany us with out it! This is a new safety measure being implemented at our school, and district wide. Please read the attached paper for information on how to get a background check. You may ask me for a signed copy of the form you need to take to APS City Center to get a background check. I do hope our families will take the steps to get background checks, and go with us on fieldtrips. We need you! NO SCHOOL this Friday, October 12th. Fall Break -- Have fun! Scholastic Book Orders going home are due back next Monday, October 15th. Please look over the order form with your child, and consider ordering books. This is a great way to build your child’s home library. Nearly every month, there is one book you can order for less than a dollar! There is no minimum order.
